Japan Viagra Viagra, containing the active ingredient sildenafil, is a prescription medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). In Japan, it was approved for medical use in January 1999, with sales commencing in March of that year.

Initially, Viagra was available only through prescription. However, in 2020, “Viagra Connect,” an over-the-counter version containing 50mg of sildenafil, became available at Japanese pharmacies. This designated Class 2 medication can be purchased after consultation with a pharmacist.

Generic versions of Viagra, known as sildenafil, are also available in Japan. These generics are typically more affordable and come in various formulations, including orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs) that dissolve on the tongue, offering convenience for users.

It’s important to note that while Viagra is available in 25mg and 50mg doses in Japan, the 100mg tablets are not approved for use in the country.
